A gym built around the people on the mats
King of the Mats is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and wrestling gym on Jutland Road in Etobicoke. We teach kids from four years old and adults from complete beginners to competitors, in the same room, under the same standard.
What holds it together is the coaching. Our instructors bring decades of combined experience across gi and no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, striking, and wrestling, including black-belt lineage traced back to some of the most respected names in the sport. Come in and meet them; they are on the mats every night of the week.
None of them teach the same way, and that is the point. A four-year-old learning to fall safely and an adult drilling a guard pass need different things from a coach. What stays constant is that you leave every session knowing something you did not know when you walked in.
Technique over strength. Patience over force. You get better by showing up, not by being the biggest person in the room.
What we train for
Jiu-Jitsu is called the gentle art because it teaches power through patience, precision, and intelligence rather than force. These are the habits that come with it.
Respect
You train with people, not against them. Everyone on the mat is helping you improve, and you are doing the same for them.
Discipline
Progress comes from turning up on the days you do not feel like it. The technique follows the habit, not the other way round.
Perseverance
You will be stuck, caught, and outworked, often. Learning to stay calm and keep solving the problem is the skill that carries off the mat.
Community
Kids, parents, beginners, and competitors share the same room. Nobody trains here alone, and nobody gets left behind on a technique.
Come and watch a class
You are welcome to drop in, sit at the side, and see what a session actually looks like before committing to anything.
